MEANING IN THE WEAVE
The SIHO or elephant motif symbolizes great strength and keeps illness and injury away. Riding on its back is the SPIRIT RIDER or KHON BUHAAN, a Human Ancestor Figure standing with arms held high. In their rituals, Shamans travel to the afterlife to seek counsel from the ancestors. HONG, the Magical Swan and a symbol of beauty, roosts nearby. Learn more about symbology here.
WEAVER’S NOTES
Handwoven for you by Ms. Lae of the Taileu Tribe in the traditional “chock” or tapestry method. The chock method allows the weaver to use many colors, but this design is not reversible. Variations in the weave are part of the handwoven process. Natural dyes will patina over time.
CARE
Wash in cold water, gentle cycle, mild detergent. Do not bleach. Line dry for a softly rumpled look. Iron while damp.
